Mark Nwakamma has been chosen as the StatSheet America East Player of the Week for the week ending January 7th. StatSheet's America East Freshman of the Week is Jameel Warney from Stony Brook. Finally, Wes Cole takes home StatSheet's America East 6th Man of the Week. Nwakamma registered 4 rebounds per game, 80% shooting, and 18 points per game. The Hartford sophomore put these numbers up in wins versus Binghamton and Boston University.
Nwakamma led all scoring for the Hawks with 23 points while adding 2 blocked shots in a close 71-68 win against Binghamton. He followed that up with 13 points and 2 blocked shots in a narrow 77-74 win over Boston University.
This is the first time that Mark Nwakamma has been named the StatSheet America East Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is our own Nate Sikma. Honorable mention goes to junior Jon Mesghna from Maine.
StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week: Stony Brook's Jameel Warney
Jameel Warney played an average of 24 minutes while starting both games for Stony Brook. His average in blocked shots (3.0 per game) was the best among all America East freshmen. In a 50-44 win over Manhattan, Warney led all scoring for the Seawolves with 8 points and all rebounding with 6. Following that in a 65-49 win over New Hampshire, he led scoring with 18 points and added 4 blocked shots.
This is the second time for Jameel Warney, who won the StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week earlier this season. The runner-up is Ethan O`Day from Vermont. Honorable mention goes to Jordan Reed from Binghamton.
StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week: Hartford's Wes Cole
Wes Cole, a 6-0 Sophomore guard, averaged 16 minutes of action over the two games for the Hawks. In the win against Binghamton, Cole got 6 points and 3 rebounds. During the win against Boston University, he led all scoring with 22 points on 46% shooting.
This is Wes Cole's first StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week award this season. Marcus Rouse, a senior guard from Stony Brook, is the runner up. Anthony Mayo, a junior forward from Stony Brook, earns honorable mention. With this latest achievement, Hartford has 2 StatSheet America East Player of the Week wins this season.
