Albany's Sam Rowley has won the StatSheet America East Player of the Week award for the week ending January 14th. Stony Brook's Jameel Warney has been recognized as StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week. And finally, Marcus Rouse from Stony Brook takes home StatSheet's America East 6th Man of the Week.
Rowley finished first in the America East in rebounding (13.0 per game). He also had a strong showing in scoring (15.5 pts per game) and shooting (70%). The Albany sophomore played well in victories against Binghamton and Maine.
Rowley led the Great Danes in scoring and rebounding with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a 71-59 win over Binghamton. He followed that up with 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 76-63 victory against Maine.
This is the first StatSheet America East Player of the Week honor for Sam Rowley. The runner-up this week is Clancy Rugg, a junior from Vermont. Honorable mention goes to Boston University junior Dom Morris. Mark Nwakamma was the highest ranking player from Hartford, finishing 13th.
StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week: Stony Brook's Jameel Warney
Jameel Warney was on the floor an average of 29 minutes starting both games for Stony Brook. His averages in rebounding (7.0 per game), blocked shots (2.5 per game), and free throws (4.0 per game) topped all America East freshmen. In a 62-37 waxing of Binghamton, Warney led the Seawolves in scoring with 13 points and in rebounding with 8. Then in a 73-59 win against Hartford, he led all scoring with a 17 point show and added 2 blocked shots.
Jameel Warney has won the StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week an astounding 3 times. John Papale from Boston University grabs runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Maurice Watson Jr. from Boston University.
StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week: Stony Brook's Marcus Rouse
Marcus Rouse, a senior and a 6-1 guard, averaged 20 minutes over the two games for the Seawolves. In the win over Binghamton, Rouse put up 12 points and 7 rebounds. Then in the victory against Hartford, he racked up 3 points and 3 rebounds.
This is the first time this season that Marcus Rouse has won the StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week. Leonard Hayes, a senior guard from Stony Brook, is runner up. Our own Wes Cole receives honorable mention. Hartford players have been named StatSheet America East Player of the Week 2 times this season.
